Helen graduated from Augustana College in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication sciences and disorders and a minor in Spanish. In 2014, Helen completed the Master of Occupational Therapy program at Saint Ambrose University and completed her Level II Fieldwork Clinical Rotations focusing on acute rehabilitation and brain injury rehabilitation.
Helen started her career at Loyola University Medical Center as an occupational therapist working on the acute medical/surgical/transplant service line as well as the acute rehabilitation unit. In 2016, Helen accepted a position at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab DayRehab Center with a focus on working with individuals with a variety of neurological and cardiac conditions, debility, and cancer. In addition to providing interventions for improving daily living skills, Helen assisted with educating staff on use of upper extremity modalities to improve function, co-lead pain management groups, provided home evaluations and focused on return to work tasks/work hardening skills.
Helen joined Synapse House in December 2019 with the goal to support the improvement of independence with functional living skills and quality of life through education and meaningful activities for members and their families.
